NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDA (NIA), JAIPUR

Ph.D. (Ayurveda) Programme (2025-26)

The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, a Deemed to be University under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, invites online applications for admission to its Ph.D. (Ayurveda) programme for the academic session 2025-26. The programme includes both Joint Ph.D. Degree Programme (JDP) and Single-Centre Ph.D. Degree Programme.


Joint Ph.D. Degree Programme (JDP)

The Joint Ph.D. Degree Programme (JDP) is a collaborative initiative between NIA and AcSIR (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research). Under this programme, scholars will be concurrently enrolled and jointly supervised by faculty members from NIA and CSIR institutes. Upon completion, scholars will receive two separate Ph.D. degree certificates, one from each institution.

  • Home Institute: NIA, Jaipur
  • Host Institute: Concerned CSIR Institute
  • Scholars must conduct research at both institutions and submit a single thesis covering their work at both sites.
  • Preference will be given to candidates opting for JDP.

  • Reservation: Seats are allocated as per Government of India norms for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates.
  • Foreign Nationals: 2 seats are reserved (1 in Kayachikitsa, 1 in Rasa Sastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana).

Eligibility

  • MD/MS (Ayurveda) degree in the respective subject from an institute recognized by NCISM.
  • The PG degree must be completed by April 10, 2025.
  • Candidates currently registered for another Ph.D. programme must withdraw before applying.

Foreign Nationals:

  • Only candidates applying through ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) are eligible.
  • If no foreign nationals apply, the seats will be offered to Indian candidates from the unreserved category.

Selection Procedure

1. Entrance Examination (For General Candidates)

  • A common entrance test will be conducted for both single-centre and JDP Ph.D. candidates.
  • Exam Duration: 90 minutes
  • Question Paper Pattern:
    • 60 subject-specific MCQs (PG level)
    • 25 questions on Research Methodology & Medical Statistics
    • 10 questions on AYUSH general knowledge
    • 5 questions on Basic IT knowledge
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark for each correct answer; 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Shortlisting: Top 3 candidates per seat will be called for the interview.

2. Direct Admission (For UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/AYUSH-NET/CSIR-NET Candidates)

  • Candidates who have qualified for national fellowships (UGC/CSIR/AYUSH-NET, etc.) will be directly interviewed.
  • The interview date will be notified on the NIA website.

3. Interview Process

  • Shortlisted candidates will present their research proposal (8-10 min) before an expert panel.
  • Evaluation will be based on:
    • Research aptitude
    • Competence for the proposed research
    • Relevance of the research to Ayurveda & modern science

Scholarships & Financial Assistance

  • Candidates selected through NIA’s entrance exam will receive a stipend as per NIA/GoI rules.
  • Candidates selected via UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR-NET/AYUSH-NET will receive stipends from their respective funding agencies.

Additional Benefits:

  • JDP Scholars will receive funding as per the MoU between NIA & AcSIR.
  • Research grants may be available under the AYUSH Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme 2018.
