Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India
Founded in 1983 with the support of apex financial institutions such as IDBI, ICICI, IFCI, and SBI, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) is a national resource institute in entrepreneurship education, training, research, and incubation. Located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, EDII is recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. It has pioneered entrepreneurship education, launched the EDII-EDP model, and has a global footprint through development centres in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Rwanda.
About the Course
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) at EDII is a full-time doctoral-level programme focused on entrepreneurship research. Introduced in 2014, it aims to fill the critical gap in trained researchers, educators, and policy thinkers in entrepreneurship. The programme blends rigorous coursework with high-quality research exposure to develop scholars capable of contributing to academia, policy, and industry.
The FPM is designed to:
- Develop competent scholars in entrepreneurship
- Encourage interdisciplinary research with policy relevance
- Bridge theory and practice in entrepreneurship
- Strengthen the Indian entrepreneurship education ecosystem
Course Structure and Content
The FPM spans three years (extension possible by one year without financial support) and consists of:
- Coursework Phase (Years 1 & 2): Six terms, 33 credits
- Core subjects: Entrepreneurship Foundation, Management Concepts, Research Methods, Business Policy, Advanced Theories
- Area-Specific Seminar Courses in chosen major and minor areas
- Collaborative Academic Projects (review articles & empirical papers)
- Thesis Phase (Year 3): Proposal submission, research, writing, and thesis defence
Key Areas of Specialisation include:
- Entrepreneurship Education and Research
- Social, Corporate, Women, and International Entrepreneurship
- Innovation, Incubation, and Technology Clusters
- Family Business, Minority, Tribal, Dalit Entrepreneurship
- Entrepreneurial Finance, Marketing, HR, and Governance
Students also undergo mandatory Teaching Assistantship in the 2nd and 3rd years.
Eligibility
- A First-Class Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Technology, Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Commerce, Humanities, Biological or Pure Sciences.
- Final-year postgraduates can apply provisionally, subject to submission of results by 31st July of the year of admission.
Admission Process
EDII FPM Programme
Admission is based on:
- Entrepreneurship Research Aptitude Test (ERAT)
- Presentation of a research proposal
- Personal interview
Applicants must submit:
- Filled application form with NOC (if employed)
- Tentative research proposal
- Academic transcripts (10th to PG)
- Statement of Purpose
Approximate Fees
- With Fellowship Support: Rs. 2,08,500 (after waiver) in 9 instalments
- Without Fellowship: Rs. 5,40,000 in 12 instalments
- Application Fee: Rs. 1,000
- Refundable Caution Money: Rs. 10,000
Fellowship and Financial Support
Selected candidates (with fellowship) receive:
- Stipend: Rs. 35,000/month (Years 1–2), Rs. 42,000/month (Year 3)
- Contingency Grants: Up to Rs. 30,000 (Year 1), Rs. 20,000 (Years 2 & 3)
- Conference Grant: Up to Rs. 50,000 (3rd Year)
- Additional support: Field research grants, research event participation
- Teaching assistantship remuneration as per norms
Accommodation
- Single-room campus accommodation for all students
- Limited married accommodation on a first-come, first-served basis
- Fellowship students are charged nominal rent
Research Infrastructure
- Access to the Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CREED)
- Dedicated FPM study rooms and high-end library (EDILIC)
- Access to online databases like EBSCO, Edward Elgar, EPWRF, Prowess, Crisil, NVivo, Turnitin, and more
- Institute publishes the globally respected Journal of Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Sage
Admission Cycle (Approximate)
The programme begins in the first week of July, with applications and selection process typically occurring between March and June. This timing may vary slightly each year.
