About the Programme – BITS Design School B.Des
BITS Design School (BITSDES), an initiative of BITS Pilani, invites applications for its Bachelor of Design (B.Des) (Hons) programme for the academic year 2026. The programme blends design, technology, and strategy to prepare future-ready designers. It is a fully residential 4-year undergraduate programme conducted at the BITS Pilani Mumbai Campus.
BITSDES carries forward BITS Pilani’s legacy of academic excellence, offering a global and industry-integrated approach to design education. The curriculum trains students to blend creativity with analytical skills, bridging design and business strategy.

Eligibility
- Candidates must have passed or be appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognized board with at least 45% aggregate marks.
- Candidates must have taken at least one of the following design entrance tests:
- NID-DAT (National Institute of Design – Design Aptitude Test) Prelims
- UCEED (IIT Bombay Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design)
- BITSDAT (BITS Design Aptitude Test)

- Last Date to Apply: February 1, 2026
- BITS Design Aptitude Test (BITSDAT): March 31 – April 5, 2026
- Upload BITS/UCEED/NID DAT Prelims Scores: April 8 – April 12, 2026
- Shortlist Announcement: April 16, 2026
- Portfolio Upload: April 16 – April 20, 2026
- Online Interviews: May 2 – May 12, 2026
- Final Results: May 18, 2026
Application Fee: ₹2,500
Application Guidelines
- Only one round of applications will be conducted.
- Candidates submitting their application by February 1, 2026, will be allowed to upload BITS/UCEED/NID DAT Prelims scores when the portal reopens.
- Fresh applications will not be accepted during the score upload window.
- All dates are subject to change at the discretion of BITSDES.
Selection
Selection will be based on performance in design aptitude tests (NID-DAT/UCEED/BITSDAT), portfolio evaluation, and online interviews.

During the portfolio interview, BITSDES looks for candidates who:
- Are fully committed to pursuing a career in design.
- Are creatively inclined and possess a strong sense of aesthetics.
- Have an aptitude for design thinking and problem-solving.
- Communicate ideas clearly through verbal and visual media.

BITS Design School B.Des Scholarships
BITS Design School offers multiple scholarships to make high-quality design education accessible and to encourage excellence, diversity, and inclusivity. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, financial need, and special considerations such as gender and geography.
1. Merit & Means-Based Scholarship:
For students with an annual family income below ₹18,00,000. Awards up to 75% tuition fee waiver based on overall merit, design test scores, academic record, co/extra-curricular achievements, and portfolio interview. Renewable each year based on performance.
2. Academic Merit Scholarship:
Recognizes top-performing students who demonstrate strong academic and creative excellence. Provides up to 75% tuition fee waiver annually, automatically considered for all admitted students.
3. Chancellor’s Scholarship:
The most prestigious award, offering a 100% tuition fee waiver to top-performing candidates identified by a special jury. Includes exclusive benefits such as meeting the Chancellor, a fully funded international design exposure program (Aalto/Stanford/Milan/Dubai Design Week), and a third-year internship from the Chancellor’s office.
General Conditions:
- Applicants must be Indian citizens, have completed Grades 10 and 12 from a recognized board, and hold an offer for the B.Des (Hons) program.
- Scholarships cannot be combined; only the higher waiver applies.
- Awards are renewed yearly based on academic performance, conduct, attendance, and fee compliance, as per BITSDES policy.
- Final scholarship decisions rest with the BITSDES Admissions Committee.
