ADMISSION ALERT – M.Tech (By Research) / Ph.D. / Dual Degree Program (July-Dec 2025)
The School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE) at IIT Mandi invites online applications from bright and dedicated scholars for full-time and part-time admission to the M.Tech (By Research), Ph.D., and Dual Degree (M.Tech + Ph.D.) programs for the July-December 2025 session. Eligibility
For Ph.D. (Full-Time Research Scholars):
Candidates must meet any one of the following criteria:
- Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology with a strong academic record.
- Master’s degree in Sciences with a valid GATE score.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from CFTIs with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 for General / 7.0 for OBC (NCL) / 6.5 for SC/ST on a 10-point scale.
- Bachelor’s degree from Non-CFTIs with at least CGPA of 7.5 for General / 7.0 for OBC (NCL) / 6.5 for SC/ST and a valid GATE score.
For M.Tech (By Research) (Full-Time Research Scholars):
Candidates must meet any one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in appropriate Sciences.
- A valid GATE score is required for admission and for availing HTRA scholarships.
- Candidates with B.Tech/BE from CFTIs with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 for General / 7.0 for OBC (NCL) / 6.5 for SC/ST are exempted from GATE.
For Dual Degree (M.Tech + Ph.D.):
- BE/B.Tech or M.Sc. or equivalent degree with a valid GATE Score.
- GATE score is waived for candidates having B.Tech/BE from CFTIs with CGPA ≥ 8.0 (General) / 7.5 (OBC NCL) / 7.0 (SC/ST).
Exemptions from GATE or National Level Exam Requirement
Candidates from the following backgrounds are exempted from GATE or other national-level exams:
- B.Tech/BE/B.S. (or equivalent) from CFTIs or any top 100 NIRF-ranked institutes with CGPA ≥ 7.5 (General/OBC) / 7.0 (SC/ST).
- BS-MS/M.Sc. degree holders from IITs, IISERs, IISc, IIMs, or any top 100 NIRF-ranked institutes with CGPA ≥ 7.5.
- Graduates from Himachal Pradesh Government Institutions with CGPA ≥ 7.5 (General) / 7.0 (OBC) / 6.5 (SC/ST).
Important Note:
- Sponsored or part-time Ph.D./M.Tech (By Research) candidates are not eligible for MoE/HTRA scholarships.
- Employed candidates must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.

Selection Procedure FOR M.Tech & Ph.D at IIT Mandi
- Shortlisting of Candidates will be based on academic performance and research interests.
- Interview Process: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview, conducted online or in-person.
- The final selection will be based on academic qualifications, research aptitude, and interview performance.
