Admission Alert: Two Year MTech in Science Communication (Batch 2025-26)

The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) invites applications for admission to the M.Tech. in Science Communication for the academic session 2025-26. The program is recognized by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and is conducted at NCSM, Kolkata in an off-campus mode.
NCSM offers 15 Post Graduate Fellowships for this two-year (four-semester) full-time program. Candidates sponsored by NCSM or other institutions may also apply, but they will not be considered for the fellowship.
Eligibility
Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- M.Sc. in any subject (including Museology) with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/Third Gender candidates).
- B.E./B.Tech. in any subject with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/Third Gender candidates).
- Ph.D. (Science or Engineering) or M.Tech. in Engineering.
Reservation of Seats
Reservation will be as per the Government of India’s policy and JNU guidelines.
Age Limit
- General Candidates: Maximum 30 years as of 01.07.2025.
- Sponsored Candidates: Maximum 45 years as of 01.07.2025.
Application Fee
There is no application fee for applying to this program.
Admission Procedure
Admission will be based on:
- All-India Admission Test: Tests candidates on scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and linguistic fluency.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed.
Exemption from Admission Test:
- Candidates sponsored by NCSM or any other organization are not required to take the test, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Fee Structure
- Admission Fee (One-time, Non-Refundable)
- General/General-EWS/OBC: ₹2000/-
- SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/Third Gender: ₹1000/-
- Semester Fee
- No semester fee for any candidate.
- Tuition Fee (Per Month)
- General/General-EWS/OBC: ₹2000/-
- SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/Third Gender: Exempted (No tuition fee).
Fellowship & Contingency Grant
For Non-Sponsored Candidates:
- Fellowship: ₹12,000 per month (for two years, subject to satisfactory performance).
- Contingency Grant: ₹12,000 per year (for books, stationery, etc., on a reimbursement basis).
For Sponsored Candidates:
- Not eligible for the fellowship and contingency grant.
- Any expenses related to books, stationery, and course materials must be covered by the sponsoring institution or the candidate.
Accommodation
- Free bachelor’s hostel accommodation available for both male and female students in Kolkata.
Special Note
- Admission is not guaranteed even if a candidate meets the eligibility criteria. Selection is at the discretion of the Council.
- No canvassing or external influence will be tolerated.
- Sponsored candidates from Govt./Semi-Govt. organizations, schools, or colleges must apply through proper channels.
Career Opportunities
Candidates successfully completing the MTech in Science Communication 2025 may apply for Curator (Group ‘A’) posts in Science Museums/Science Centres in India. It also opens up opportunities abroad. Some of the world renowned technology and science magazine and even general news and media companies requires science content creators and managers.
