About the Course
The Post Graduate Diploma in Early Intervention (PGDEI) is a one-year full-time program designed to develop skilled professionals capable of addressing the growing need for early detection and rehabilitation of infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delays and disabilities. With the rise in survival rates of high-risk neonates, there is a corresponding increase in the need for trained personnel who can provide early intervention services, especially in rural and underserved areas.
The course prepares professionals to:
- Assess, plan, and implement intervention strategies for infants and toddlers at risk
- Organize and manage early intervention services
- Work effectively with families and communities
- Maintain records and write reports
- Integrate children into community-based and family-guided programs
Course Scope
Professionals completing the PGDEI have opportunities to work in:
- Pediatric units, child guidance clinics, follow-up clinics
- Child development centres, rural health centres, district hospitals
- Comprehensive rehabilitation centres and early intervention units
- Pre-schools, nursery programs, and as early interventionists under NRHM/NUHM
Eligibility
Applicants must have a minimum of 50% marks (General) or 45% marks (SC/ST) in any of the following degrees:
- MBBS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, BNYS
- BPT, BOT, BASLP, B.Ed. (Special Education)
- B.Sc. Nursing
- Postgraduate in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or Child Development
Duration
- 1 year (Full-time)
Intake Capacity
- 20 seats + 2 EWS (Economically Weaker Section)
Approximate Fees
For the NIEPID PG Diploma Early Intervention Program
- General/OBC: Rs. 1,500 (Application Fee)
- SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 1,100 (Application Fee)
- Late Fee (All Categories): Rs. 200
Other tuition/hostel fees are not mentioned and can be obtained during counselling.
Admission Cycle (Approximate)
For the academic year 2025–26, the admission schedule was:
- Application Start Date: 15 May
- Last Date to Apply: 25 June
- Last Date with Late Fee: 30 June
- Entrance Exam: 27 July (Tentative)
This cycle is expected to follow a similar pattern annually.

- Fill out and submit the application form and ICR sheet
- Attach self-attested copies of qualifying degree certificates, conduct and category certificates (as applicable), and date of birth proof
- Submit a Demand Draft drawn in favor of Director, NIEPID payable at Secunderabad/Hyderabad
