ELIGIBILITY
All applicants must be citizens of a country other than India.
5-Year BA LLB (Hons):
- Completion of higher-secondary education (10+2 or equivalent) from a recognized board/school.
- Minimum 45% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade).
- Final-year students may apply provisionally, subject to submitting final mark sheet by December 31, 2025.
3-Year LLB (Hons):
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 45% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade).
- Final-year students may apply provisionally, subject to submitting degree certificate by December 31, 2025.
1-Year LLM:
- Undergraduate law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a recognized university.
- Minimum 45% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade).
- Final-year LLB students may apply provisionally, subject to submitting degree certificate by December 31, 2025.
2-Year MPP:
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 45% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade).
- Final-year students may apply provisionally, subject to submitting degree certificate by December 31, 2025.
PhD (Law) & PhD (Social Sciences, Humanities & Public Policy):
- Master’s/postgraduate degree in law, social sciences, or humanities from a recognized university.
- Minimum 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade).
- Final-year Master’s students may apply provisionally, subject to submitting degree certificate by December 31, 2025.
ADMISSION PROCESS
A. For BA LLB, LLB, LLM, and MPP Programs:
- NLSAT-International Entrance Examination:
- Exam Date: April 27, 2025.
- Mode:
- Offline in India: For candidates who have taken/will take their qualifying exam in India.
- Online: For candidates who have taken/will take their qualifying exam outside India.
- Exam Structure:
- Part A (75 marks): Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) with 0.25 negative marking per wrong answer.
- Part B (75 marks): Subjective questions (evaluated only for candidates scoring >0 in Part A).
- Interview (25 marks): Conducted for candidates shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio (3 candidates per seat).
- Selection Process:
- Stage 1: Rank list based on Part A. Top 5 candidates per seat qualify for Part B evaluation.
- Stage 2: Cumulative score (Part A + Part B) determines interview shortlist.
- Final Merit: Cumulative score (Part A + Part B + Interview) must be ≥70% for admission.
B. For PhD Programs:
- Application Submission:
- Submit a 6–8 page research proposal with:
- Tentative title, research problem/questions.
- Literature review and methodological approach.
- Original work (no external assistance/AI tools).
- Admission Test: Research aptitude and subject expertise (50% minimum to qualify).
- Submit a 6–8 page research proposal with:
- Interview & Presentation:
- Shortlisted candidates present their proposal to the PhD Admissions Review Panel.
- Final selection based on written test, proposal, and interview performance.

- BA LLB (Hons): 15 seats
- LLB (Hons): 6 seats
- LLM: 6 seats
- MPP: 6 seats
- PhD (Law): 1 seat
- PhD (Social Sciences, etc.): 1 seat
IMPORTANT DATES
- Application Portal Opens: February 21, 2025
- Application Deadline: March 30, 2025
- Application Fee: ₹10,000 (non-refundable)
- NLSAT-International Exam: April 27, 2025
- Final Admission List: Third week of May 2025
- Academic Year Commences: July 1, 2025
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Access the application form on the NLSIU admissions portal (nls.ac.in) from February 21, 2025.
- Pay the ₹10,000 fee online during submission.
- Upload required documents (e.g., academic transcripts, passport copy).
- PhD applicants must attach their research proposal.
Post-Admission Requirements:
- Submit final mark sheets/degree certificates by December 31, 2025. Failure to comply will result in admission cancellation.
