Admissions Open for UG, PG, B.Ed., Fine Arts, Ph.D. & Translation Programmes

The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath, Varanasi, a Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and accredited ‘A’ by NAAC, invites applications for admission to its various academic programmes for the session 2025–26. The institute offers an integrated blend of traditional Tibetan and Buddhist studies with modern disciplines.

Entrance Examination Centres

Eligibility

  • School-level Programs (Purva/Uttar Madhayama): Pass in Class 8 or 10 with Tibetan proficiency
  • Shastri (B.A. equivalent): 10+2 with Tibetan language
  • Acharya (M.A. equivalent): Shastri/B.A. with Tibetan in the relevant subject
  • B.Ed.: UG with 50% marks + Tibetan language at Class 10
  • Ph.D. (Vidyavaridhi): Acharya (PG) in Tibetan with 55% marks (5% relaxation for reserved categories)
  • Translation Training Programme: Acharya in related subjects with 55% marks

Entrance Exam Pattern

  • Purva Madhayama: Tibetan (100), Hindi/English (100) – Class 8 level
  • Shastri: Four papers – Buddhist/Bon Philosophy (100), Tibetan (50), Sanskrit (50), Hindi/English (50) – Class 12 level
  • Acharya & MFA: Three papers – Main Subject (100), Tibetan (50), Hindi/English/Sanskrit/Pali (50) – UG level
  • Ph.D. (for non-NET): Research Methodology (20), Subjective (50), Translation (30)
  • Translation Training: Sanskrit grammar/literature, Buddhist philosophy, translation skills – 100 marks

NET/JRF candidates will be admitted as per UGC rules (no written test required for JRF holders).

  • Merit Scholarships & Free ships as per CIHTS norms
  • Stipend of ₹25,000/month for students selected in the two-year Post-Graduate Rigorous Training Programme in Translation

  • Supernumerary Seats under PM CARES Scheme available (2 per programme)
