The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan), commonly known as NIEPID, is a premier autonomous institution under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. About the Course

The M.Phil. in Rehabilitation Psychology is a two-year postgraduate training programme aimed at developing specialists and master trainers in the domain of disability rehabilitation. It is modeled after reputed institutions such as NIMHANS and the Central Institute of Psychiatry and is distinct from regular M.Phil programs that have been discontinued under NEP 2020. This course emphasizes practical training over research orientation, equipping graduates to serve as clinicians, counselors, and community psychologists in various rehabilitation settings.


Course Content and Functions

The programme includes extensive theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training. Graduates are expected to:

  • Conduct screening and early identification of persons with disabilities
  • Perform psychological assessments and diagnoses
  • Apply psychological interventions in rehabilitation
  • Facilitate community integration
  • Teach and train others in the field of rehabilitation psychology
  • Undertake applied research in disability and rehabilitation

Eligibility

  • M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a UGC-recognized university
  • For SC/ST candidates, a minimum of 50% marks is required

  • Two years, full-time
