UGC-NET December 2025 Admission Notice
The National Testing Agency (NTA), on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), invites online applications for the UGC-NET December 2025 examination. UGC-NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to Ph.D. programmes in Indian universities and colleges.

Examination Scheme
- Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT) only.
- Papers: Two papers (Paper I and Paper II), conducted in a single session.
- Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes), no break between papers.
- Pattern:
- Paper I: 50 MCQs (2 marks each) – teaching/research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, awareness.
- Paper II: 100 MCQs (2 marks each) – subject-specific questions chosen by the candidate.
- Total Marks: 300 (150 questions).
- Marking: +2 for correct answer, no negative marking.
- Medium: English & Hindi (except language papers).
Eligibility Criteria for UGC-NET December 2025
- Academic Qualification
- Master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/PwBD/Third Gender).
- Final year/awaiting result candidates may apply provisionally but must complete within stipulated time.
- Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with minimum 75% marks are also eligible for JRF/Ph.D. admission (not for Assistant Professor).
- Age Limit
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Not more than 30 years as on 01 December 2025.
- Relaxation up to 5 years for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/PwBD/Third Gender/Women, research experience, Armed Forces service.
- Relaxation of 3 years for LLM holders.
- Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.
- Admission to Ph.D.: No upper age limit.
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Not more than 30 years as on 01 December 2025.
- Relaxations
- 5% marks relaxation in Master’s degree for reserved categories and those who completed Master’s before 19 September 1991.
- Third gender candidates receive the same relaxation as SC/ST/PwD.
Reservation Policy
- 15% seats for Scheduled Caste (SC).
- 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribe (ST).
- 27% seats for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer, Central List).
- 10% seats for General-EWS.
- 5% horizontal reservation for PwD/PwBD candidates with 40% or more disability.
Application Procedure
- Apply online at https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in only. No other mode is accepted.
- Steps:
- Register online with valid email ID and mobile number.
- Fill application form and upload scanned documents (photo, signature, certificates if applicable).
- Pay fee via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
- Download confirmation page after successful payment.
- Candidates must keep a copy of the confirmation page and fee receipt for future reference.
- Correction window will be available from 10–12 November 2025.
Important Information
- Admit card will be available online only; not sent by post.
- Candidates must carry admit card, valid photo ID, and passport-size photo to the exam centre.
- The use of unfair means will lead to disqualification and debarment.
- UGC-NET scores may also be shared with PSUs and other organizations for recruitment.
- JRF awardees are eligible for research fellowships in UGC-recognized institutions.
- Candidates qualifying only for Ph.D. admission must complete their Master’s within one year of the result.
