Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL)
The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), established in 1969 under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is located in Manasagangotri, Mysuru, and is a leading institution for research and training in Indian languages. Through its seven Regional Language Centres (RLCs) across India, CIIL implements the Three Language Formula, offering intensive diploma training in Indian languages to promote national integration and multilingual education.
Programme Offered
Diploma in Language Training (July 2025 – April 2026)
- Mode: Full-time, residential or online
- Duration: 1085 hours of instruction (typically from July to April)
- Structure: Three-part training – Basic (4 months), Intermediate (3 months), Advanced (3 months)
- Total Seats: 506 (across all centres)

Eligibility
General Conditions:
- Must not already have formal/informal proficiency or a degree in the language applied for.
- Must not have been trained in the same language earlier at any RLC.
- Must be below 50 years of age as on 7 July 2025 (age relaxation only for in-service teachers).
- English, Hindi, and Sanskrit are not offered under this programme.
Categories & Specific Qualifications:
- In-service Teachers:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in Govt./Govt.-aided primary or secondary schools
- Prospective Teachers:
- B.Ed./M.Ed., B.El.Ed., D.El.Ed., or TET-qualified
- Research Scholars:
- Enrolled in Ph.D. or qualified NET/SET/SLET
- General Public:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma from a recognised university
- Or completed Ph.D. in any discipline

- Application Fee: ₹150/-
- Payable via QR Code or Demand Draft in favour of “MHRD HIGHER CAS CLG”, payable at New Delhi
- For In-Service Teachers: Application must be routed through proper authority with service documents
- For Others: Submit directly to the Director, CIIL, with required documents
Training Modes
Of CIIL Diploma 2025 Courses
Offline (Residential):
- Full-time with Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced modules
- Compulsory attendance and participation in Language Environment Tour (LET)
- Hostel and mess facilities available on nominal charges
Online:
- Structured over 9 months (July–April)
- 15-day contact classes for each module held at the respective RLCs
- Online learners do not receive financial benefits
