INDIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE CULTIVATION OF SCIENCE (IACS), KOLKATA

The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, invites online applications from eligible candidates for admission to the Regular Full-Time PhD Program in the Autumn Semester of the academic year 2025–26, beginning August 2025. Admissions are open in the following Schools:
- School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SAIS)
- School of Biological Sciences (SBS)
- School of Chemical Sciences (SCS)
- School of Material Sciences (SMS)
- School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS)
- School of Physical Sciences (SPS)
Eligibility:
- A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in the Master’s degree is required for General candidates. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled and other reserved categories must have at least 50% marks.
- The applicant must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as per UGC guidelines.
- The selection process includes academic record evaluation, performance in national level examinations, and written test/interview as determined by the respective School.
- Relaxation of selection criteria for reserved categories will be applicable as per UGC and Government of India norms.
- Mere eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting for interview.
Fellowship: Admitted candidates will be eligible for fellowships as per the norms of IACS/CSIR/UGC/INSPIRE/Other funding agencies.
Age Limit: Applicants must be below 28 years as on the closing date of application. Age relaxation will be provided as per Government of India norms.
Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply.
Selection Procedure for IACS PhD 2025 :
- Shortlisting will be based on eligibility and academic merit by each School.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be informed via email and will be called for a written test and/or interview (mode to be decided by each School).
- Final selection will consider availability of positions in different research groups, candidate’s performance, and the relevance of their background to the available research areas.

Fees to be Paid at Admission:
- Admission Fee: Rs. 15,000 (one-time)
- Caution Deposit: Rs. 10,000

Scholarships for IACS PhD 2025 :
All admitted full-time PhD students are eligible for scholarships as per norms of IACS/CSIR/UGC/INSPIRE/other recognized funding bodies.
