Student Buzz: Real Talk on Reddit about IIM Bangalore BBA (DBE)
In a recent Reddit discussion titled “The truth about IIM Bangalore BBA DBE (For people who are asking questions),” a current student from the inaugural batch shared detailed first-hand insights about the program, addressing some of the most common questions aspiring applicants have.
Can this be done as a standalone degree? Is it valid for MBA admissions?
Yes, and yes – with a caveat. The student suggests that if you’re pursuing it standalone, it’s best to pair it with something substantial, like CA, CFA, ACCA, Actuarial Science, running a startup, or working in a family business. The degree is recognized by UGC/AICTE and treated as a regular college degree—without any mention of the “online” mode on the certificate.
Pedagogy & Learning Experience
The student praised the program’s modern pedagogy, highlighting case studies, industry models (like BCG Matrix, Perceptual Mapping), and live demonstrations. They contrasted it with traditional BBA curriculums that often feel like a rehash of school syllabi.
Perks & Add-ons
Enrolled students get a 3-year subscription to Grammarly, Wall Street Journal, and full access to IIMB’s digital library. There’s talk of a CFA affiliation that could potentially offer exam scholarships worth over ₹1 lakh.
Internships, Clubs & Startup Opportunities
Internships are assured for all students, with better roles likely for top performers. There’s also the possibility to apply for PGP clubs, and access to NSRCEL, IIMB’s startup incubation centre, from the next semester onward.
Placements
While the institute hasn’t committed to traditional placement drives yet, it will offer a recruiter-interfacing platform where students can showcase their profiles. Recruiters will reach out to students they want to interview—placing the onus on the candidate’s merit and CV strength.
Comparison with Other Colleges
When asked if it’s better than SRCC, the student admitted it’s not. But compared to Tier 2.5/Tier 3 colleges, they believe IIMB’s DBE program offers superior value, provided students actively build additional credentials.
Final Word
The student noted that while certain aspects—like peer-to-peer interaction—are still evolving, the overall value and credibility of the program are only set to grow, and competition for the 2025 intake is likely to be twice as tough.
