Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. Ph.D. Programme
Applications are invited from UGC-NET qualified candidates for registration to the Ph.D. programme (July 2025 session) at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The registration process will be conducted strictly as per the MGU Regulations for Ph.D. 2025, based on UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.

Research Centres
Research shall be conducted only at:
- University Teaching Departments
- Inter University/Inter School Centers
- Approved Research Centers in Government and Aided Colleges affiliated to MGU
- Institutions formed by Act of State or Central Government for research promotion
Research Supervising Teachers
Only regular, approved faculty members from MGU-affiliated Government and Aided Colleges or scientists from approved research centers with MGU guideship can supervise. Teachers with less than 3 years of regular service or those retired/adjunct/on deputation are ineligible.
Vacancy under a supervising teacher will be determined at the time of the Doctoral Committee.
Eligibility
Applicants must have qualified UGC-NET and must fulfill one of the following academic paths:
- 1-year/2-semester Master’s after a 4-year Bachelor’s, or
- 2-year Master’s after a 3-year Bachelor’s, or
- 4-year Bachelor’s (Honours with Research) with 75% marks, or
- Equivalent Master’s degree from a foreign university ranked within top 1500 in QS or THE.
Minimum Marks Required: 55% aggregate or equivalent grade
Relaxation: 5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS (based on qualifying marks without grace marks)
Cut-off Date for Eligibility: 31.07.2025

Mode of Selection / Admission
- All UGC-NET qualified applicants will be invited for a Doctoral Interview.
- Selection will be based on:
- NET Score Weightage: 70%
- Interview: 30% (for NET 2024 & 2025 qualified)
- Interview only (100 marks) for those who qualified NET prior to 2024.
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- General: 50%
- SC/ST: 45%
Admission is based on availability of seats and Doctoral Committee recommendation.
