NIOS Advantages & Disadvantages
It is perhaps the best thing happened to school education in India. Unlike other boards one doesnt have to choose fixed package of subjects but can enroll for the subjects of student’s interest. NIOS is an excellent pathway not only for students who may have failed previously, but also for those looking for an alternative to regular schooling due to personal, professional, or other commitments. NIOS’s flexible model allows candidates to focus on key subjects, improving their chances of passing the board exams in a shorter time span.
Inspite of the all the pluses, NIOS still doesnt get the respect from the educators and students it deserve. Though the curriculum and the subjects are designed well but the problem lies in the implementation of the program and the conduction of exams. Since it doesnt have any regular schools, controlling the exams is a challenge for them, there has been reports of rampant cheating and use of unfair means in the exams. This is one of the reasons for students not scoring well or as high as CBSE of ICSE students. Getting marks is pretty tough at NIOS, rarely students get more than 50% in the TMA or the practicals, which also contribute to low score.
However, still this is the best choice for students who flunked their boards. By choosing Stream-2, Students can save one year with NIOS and quickly align themselves back on track for higher education, competitive exams, or career advancement.
