MGSU PhD Admission 2025 – Apply Online for 23 Subjects, Last Date 18 July
MAHARAJA GANGA SINGH UNIVERSITY, BIKANER
Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner invites online applications for Ph.D. Admission 2025 in various subjects as per the University Research Ordinance 101 and UGC Regulations dated 07.11.2022. The university follows UGC’s updated admission framework and reserves the right to revise or update procedures as per SOPPs from time to time.
PROGRAMME & ELIGIBILITY
Admission is open for Ph.D. programmes across 23 subjects. Eligibility for admission includes the following:
Academic Requirements:
- Master’s degree after a 3-year or 4-year bachelor’s degree, with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/MBC non-creamy layer, PwD, EWS)
- Candidates with 4-year UG degrees must have at least 75% marks, with applicable relaxation
- M.Phil. holders with 55% marks are also eligible
- Candidates applying under the Part-Time Ph.D. mode must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Categories of Applicants:
- Category 1: JRF qualified with fellowship – admitted based on interview marks (30 marks)
- Category 2: NET-qualified – selection based on 70% NET + 30% interview
- Category 3: Other eligible candidates as per UGC criteria – same weightage as Category 2
Interview:
Shortlisted candidates (up to twice the number of seats) will be called for interviews to assess research aptitude.
COURSEWORK & PROGRAM DURATION
- Coursework: Mandatory 6-month duration; 75% attendance required
- Must score minimum 55% to qualify (1 reattempt allowed)
- Failure in 2 attempts results in cancellation of admission
- Ph.D. Duration:
- Minimum: 3 years (including coursework)
- Maximum: 6 years (extendable to 8 years through re-registration)
- Women & PwD candidates may receive up to 10 years total duration
- Maternity/Childcare leave: up to 240 days
