National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, an Institute of National Importance, invites online applications from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme for the Autumn Semester (July 2025) across all departments, centres, and interdisciplinary areas. Admission is available with Institute fellowships, project fellowships, external fellowships (like CSIR-NET, DST-INSPIRE, UGC-NET), and also in sponsored or self-financed categories.

Eligibility
Basic Eligibility:
- M.Tech / M.E. / M.Arch / M.Plan / M.Des / M.Pharm or equivalent with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks
- B.Tech / B.Sc. Engg. / MCA / M.Sc. / MA / MBA / M.Com with valid GATE/NET/GPAT or equivalent score and CGPA ≥ 7.0 or 65%
- MBBS / BDS / BVSc with 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks
- Relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 5% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates
Notes:
- Mathematics required at +2 or graduation level for Science & Engineering applicants
- Specific subject-level eligibility for each department (see brochure)
- Sponsored candidates must have 2 years of continuous service and a letter of sponsorship

- Candidates above 32 years (35 for SC/ST/Women with a child) are not eligible for Institute fellowships
- HRA may be applicable for externally funded fellows as per sponsor norms
