Ph.D. (Biotechnology) Program – July (Monsoon) 2025 Session

The National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali invites applications from eligible and motivated candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology for the July (Monsoon) 2025 session. The Ph.D. program will be conducted at NABI and the degree will be awarded by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, an Institution of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament.


NABI PhD in Biotechnology Program Details

  • Duration: Minimum 5 years, maximum 7 years
  • Research Areas: Agricultural Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Nutrition Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Nanobiosciences, Post-harvest Technology, Functional Foods, Genomics and Computational Biology
  • Number of Seats: 32 (Reservation as per GoI norms)

Eligibility

  • Essential Qualification:
    • MSc/MTech in any area of Life Sciences / MPharma / MVSc / MBBS or equivalent
    • Minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD as per GoI norms)
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must have qualified a national-level test such as CSIR-UGC-NET, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, NABI fellowship, or any other government-recognized doctoral fellowship eligibility test
    • Candidates with valid GATE or similar national-level exams may be considered under the NABI-Core fellowship or if they are working in NABI extramural projects
  • Final Year Candidates: Those appearing in final year/semester exams may apply. Admission will be subject to meeting eligibility at the time of joining.

Fellowship

  • Candidates must have a valid fellowship from recognized granting agencies.
  • A limited number of NABI-Core fellowships may be offered to meritorious candidates with GATE/national qualification but without independent fellowships.

Reservation of Seats

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%
  • PwD: 5% (with minimum 40% disability, horizontal reservation)
  • EWS: 10% (with valid certificate as per Annexure-A)
  • Candidates must submit valid certificates from competent authorities.

Selection Process

  • Applications must be submitted online only. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Shortlisting will be based on merit (academic performance, fellowship status, etc.).
  • The interview/viva-voce will be conducted as part of the final selection.
  • Decision of NABI will be final and binding in all matters.
